February 2023: Touro Health and Mardi Gras

This month I was able to engage in several volunteer opportunities. The first one was Recycle Dat consisted of volunteers collecting beads and cans to recycle during the Mardi Gras parades. I volunteered on February 11th and 12th at the St. Charles location from 1-4pm on both days. Although it was very rainy and cold on Saturday, I still enjoyed being able to see the parades but also help with the clean up on the streets. I was able to meet a bunch of other volunteers and interact with people along the route. I wasn’t able to get a spot for the Mardi Gras first aid tents but this was still a great alternative to that. I didn't get many pictures because it was rainy and I had bags in my hands but I caught a few.

The next opportunity I had was beginning my volunteering at Touro Health Emergency Department. I began that today and worked from 4pm-7pm. I didn’t take any pictures inside but was able to get a very awkward picture I sent to my mom which I am sure end up on facebook😂. Although it was only my first day, I did a lot of things in my three hours. This included cleaning rooms and prepping them for more patients, restocking shelves and assisting the medical staff with any other tasks. So far I enjoy the people on my shift and the staff so I am excited to continue in the following weeks.
